I’m really excited about doing this blog. I guess I should introduce myself and give some background information. This is my second deployment, but first with the Army. I used to be Air Force Reserve, but switched branches. (I’ll have to share that story some other time on the blog) We are currently about 90 days give or take a few, before we head back home.
I belong to an Area Support Medical Company base out of Ft Bragg, NC. I feel like I have one of the best “jobs” in the Army. (It’s not really a “job”; it’s how I serve my country) I’m a healthcare specialist, combat medic, or “doc.” Right now, our mission is working in a clinical setting providing care for soldiers, airmen, civilian contractors and Iraqi’s.
It’s really been a quite deployment compared to my first deployment, where it seemed like our base was mortared every other day. Now with the US pulling back and letting the Iraqi’s takeover it seems to be even more quite. In all honesty, I would rather have it this way. But things can always change at the drop of a hat. Everybody always wants to know about the weather here in the “sandbox.” It’s been in the triple digits since the end of May. Right now we are in the sandstorm season…….I just happened to miss a really bad one while I was on R & R. According to locals they have not seen one that bad in years…..I’m glad I missed it.
Looking forward to posting more in the next few days.
