You see, being a judge on “American Idol” has its advantages! Ellen DeGeneres announced on her show today that she is starting a record label titled eleveneleven. And apparently, her first act will be 12-year-old Greyson Chance, who has appeared on her show after becoming a YouTube sensation with his performance of Lady GaGa’s “Parparazzi.”
Good ole’ Simon! Associated Press reported today that Simon is planning a charity single to benefit victims of the earthquake in Haiti. According to the article, Cowell says the goal is to raise as much money as possible in a short period of time. He says he plans to release the record within 10 days.
I read a couple of interesting articles online today. One said that Elton John was rumored as a person of interest to replace Simon Cowell as a new judge next season. Another post had Ryan Seacrest doubling as both host and judge. Personally, I wouldn’t let Seacrest touch judging with a 10-foot pole. Elton John would be a great choice. He knows the business, for sure. I wonder if he would be able to be a frank with auditionists and contestants as Simon. But that’s one judge that may fit in well with Randy, Kara and Ellen.
Simon makes it official: This is his last season on “American Idol.” In the 2011, he will be judge and executive producer of “X Factor” in the United States. He says he’s confident “American Idol” will survive without him.
But will it? Do we tune in for the performers? Do we tune in for the judges? Can it survive with Randy, Kara, Ellen and Ryan?
I think that won’t be determined until we see how many people show up on audition days. But if Simon’s “X Factor” is a huge hit in the fall, it will have a direct impact on “Idol” in the spring. It will definitely be overkill of two similar shows and one will suffer. With Simon on X Factor and possibly joined by Paula … it sure seems more intriguing, doesn’t it?
I’d like to see “Idol” go more than 10 years … but let’s not worry about the future. We’ll concentrate on 2010 with the current cast of judges. Let “American Idol 2010″ begin!

Paula, Paula … what are you doing? Did you see her bit last night during the VH1 Divas show? She arrived on stage dressed like – and dancing like – Ellen DeGeneres on Thursday, Sept. 17, in New York. DeGeneres is the newest judge on “American Idol,” replacing Abdul. I hope she cleared this with Ellen before going on stage. If not, can you imagine what the media will do with this?
Check out this video from CNN about Ellen taking over as the fourth judge on ‘Idol.’ It offers comments from Hollywood stars, Randy Jackson, an entertainment critic and more. Great stuff!
