OK, I need some help tonight. My “other” job called tonight, so I missed the first three, which would be Lee DeWyze, Alex Lambert and Tim Urban. At the end, I saw just a small snippet of each performer and DeWyze sounded the best. I’ll try and watch the “taped” version later tonight/early tomorrow.
But after that, I was mildly impressed with Casey James and Aaron Kelly, not real pleased with Andy Garcia and thought Todrick Hall and Michael Lynche were very, very strong.
Whenever someone sings Queen, I get nervous because they usually don’t get good reviews. but Hall did a great job with “Somebody to Love” and showed his wonderful voice.
What can I say about Lynche? When you put Kara in Paula’s position of crying after a performance, there’s not much to say. I was waiting for Kara/Paula to say “You move me.” (Remember Paula saying that?) But seriously, it was a very touching moment because I wouldn’t think Kara could be put in that type of position. She always seems in control … until that moment, though. I thought, really, it was one of the best moments of the season.
And did you see Lynche toss the microphone stand aside? That dude is so muscular, that the stand went right to the floor!
Not sure if I can formulate a “going home” list since I didn’t see the first three. But solely based on what I saw at the end, here’s my bottom 2:
Going home prediction: Tim Urban and Andy Garcia.
I like Garcia a lot, but I think the young vote will go to either Urban or Lambert.

Paige … oh, Paige. What in the world happened? If she survives Thursday night, it would be one of the best resuscitations, maybe in Idol history. She was flat-out horrible tonight and I feel badly for her. We’ve all seen her sing well. But to have this performance tonight … so close to the top 12 … it’s disheartening. I’m pulling for her to survive … but I’d be shocked if she did.
Who will join her leaving the show on Thursday? I’d give a couple of possibilities: Katie Stevens, who butchered Kelly Clarkson’s “Breakaway”; and Lilly Scott, who gave Patsy Cline’s “I Fall to Pieces” a try.
Stevens can sing, but I thought “Breakaway” didn’t have any punch to it. It was flat.
For Scott, it was just difficult to listen to. I know Randy liked it, Ellen liked it, Kara enjoyed it, but Simon was spot on saying he thought it was a bit risky.
Crystal Bowersox is head and shoulders above everyone else right now. She not only sings better than everyone else, but she performs better as well. She’s not scared on the stage; she shows maturity on the stage and she makes each song interesting to listen. Simon is correct: This is her competition to lose.
It was great to see Lacey Brown have a solid performance, with “The Story.” I’m still not seeing what the judges see in Didi Benami, though. I keep going back to the Megan Joy comparison, because the two really do sound alike … and I was definitely not a Megan Joy singing fan.
Siobhan Magnus’ “House of the Rising Sun” was fantastic. In fact, it was so good, that I just might go and download it off iTunes. She keeps getting better and better each week, but I don’t think she’s at the Bowersox level quite yet.
And finally, Katelyn Epperly’s song from Carole King wasn’t great from a performance standpoint, but I thought she sang it well. I like her voice. I like her look. I think she should stay and continue to grow in this competition.
But does it really matter? Bowersox is going to continue to knock the “sox” off anyone else – both boys and girls – at least at this point.

Agree mostly with the results tonight. I’m OK with Haeley going home; I’m OK with John Park going home; I’m OK with Jermaine Sellers going home. I’m not OK, however, with Michelle Delamor going home

Michelle Delamor
I like her voice. I like her style. She’s much better than Didi, so yeah, I’m very disappointed to see Michelle leave. Again, Didi reminds me too much of Megan Joy … and where is Megan Joy today?
It’s going to be tough to see any of the other girls go home from this point on. Should be interesting.
How did you like the results?
Look for my ratings coming soon.

Here’s how the girls looked on Wednesday night just prior to their performances. Wanna do a fashion critique? Who looked good and who could use some work?
I thought Lacey Brown, Katelyn Epperly and Michelle Delamor were the best-dressed. Didn’t really care for Crystal Bowersox’s clothing choice, but she made up for it with her singing. Siobhan Magnus’ fashion statement reminded me of something from the 50s. Everyone else was OK.

Yep … the girls are definitely better than the boys this year. Could we see maybe 4 girls in the final 5? Yeah, I can see that for sure.
First of all, Crystal Bowersox was fantastic tonight. What a great way to start the show! Kara said she’s brought her game to a whole new level with this performance and I agree with that statement. She sounded powerful, confident and like Simon said, she looks like a serious artist.
The judges and I differed on several performances tonight. I enjoyed Katie Stevens’ “Put Your Records On” performance. The kid’s only 17 and she has some great stage skills. Oh yeah, she CAN sing, too! None of the judges really cared for her singing tonight.
Some how, they all liked Lilly Scott. Thankfully, Simon said he wasn’t crazy about it. I thought it was horrific. She had no Sam Cooke blues feel at all to the song. I thought her singing tone was more shouting. It just wasn’t good and to hear the judges say it was a “Moment” is a crime (so to speak).
Siobhan Magnus’ final performance was good, but I didn’t think it was as great as Randy and Ellen thought.
One of the “it” moments for me tonight came from Katelyn Epperly. When she got behind that piano and belted out the Coldplay song, I thought her performance was outstanding. It was, for me, the second best performance of the night. But the judges didn’t feel the same way. In fact, Ellen said she was playing the guitar. Oops!
So who did I really like tonight? Crystal, Katelyn, Katie, Michelle Delamor (Creed’s “Arms Wide Open”) and Siobhan was OK.
Who I didn’t care for tonight? Haeley Vaughn (Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb”), Lilly, Didi Benami (“Lean on Me”) and Lacey Brown.
By the way, doesn’t Didi’s voice remind you of Megan Joy from last year? Remember Megan? She had all of those tattoos on her arm. That voice reminds me too much of Megan Joy and I didn’t really care for MJ’s voice, so that’s not a good thing for Didi.
Going home prediction: Haeley Vaughn and Lacey Brown. We could see Paige Miles going home instead of Lacey Brown, though. Wasn’t Paige in the bottom last week? Her “Walk Away” performance wasn’t really strong either, but she can still belt out some nice tunes.
So, who do you think will be going home for the girls?

Crystal Bowersox, of near Toledo, Ohio, was too ill to perform at Tuesday’s “Idol” show, so the boys went on Tuesday and the girls – assumingly with Bowersox in the lineup – will perform on Wednesday.
No one is talking much about Bowersox’s illness, however, one website that I read mentioned diabetes as the possible reason.
Hopefully she’ll perform well tonight. She has too good of a voice to leave the show this early.

Overall, tonight was so much better than last week for the boys. It really is amazing how much these guys improved. Even the really bad performers from last week – John Park, Tim Urban, Alex Lambert – were better. Urban and Lambert were much, much better … but they still have a long, long, long way to go.
We’re starting to see a bit of separation between the good, the bad and the really bad. I think Michael Lynche, Casey James and Lee DeWyze are making their case as the best of the best. Sixteen-year-old Aaron Kelly will get the teen-ager votes and he was a lot better tonight with “My Girl.”
The judges didn’t like Todrick Hall singing the Tina Turner song, but I enjoyed his performance. He definitely has stage presence and his voice is good. I’m not sure what the judges are after with him. (But then again, I liked his transformation of Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone” last week.)
I’m trying to figure out Andrew Garcia’s position in all of these performers. The guy has a great voice, but I haven’t seen it on the live performances. I agree with the judges that when he sang “Straight Up” by Paula Abdul during Hollywood week, that kind of set the bar high for him. Since then, he hasn’t pushed himself over that “Straight Up” performance.
Park, Lambert, Urban and Jermaine Sellers … whew! They’re all pretty raw. Urban, I think, will still get the young girls’ voting. But I can’t see much saving Park, Lambert or Sellers.
Judging-wise, I thought Simon acted like he was really “into it” tonight. Last week, he looked very bored, almost like he didn’t want to be there. Maybe the improvement of the performances got him in the mood tonight. I like seeing the chemistry developing with he and Kara. And I think Kara keeps getting better and better each week. Tonight, she not only looked phenomenal, but I thought her critiques were spot on. Randy has been very negative this year. No one has been in his “Dawg Pound” and I’m not quite sure what he’s looking for. One time, he tells someone to change up the song; the next time he says to just sing it. I don’t even know what he wants.
And Ellen … well, I’m still not all that impressed with her. I cringe every time she gives singing advice. And what exactly does she mean when she says the singers are “pushing” it a bit? If she’s giving performing advice … I can live with those critiques. But singing advice? Please don’t “push it” and leave that to the other three “experts.” Plain and simple: I want her to be funny! That’s all I request.
Going home prediction: Jermaine Sellers & Alex Lambert

Last season’s “Idol” finalist Danny Gokey is releasing his first album – titled “My Best Days” – and it’s in stores today.
The 29-year-old former church music director returns to the show on Thursday to perform his single “My Best Days Are Ahead of Me.”
Gokey, the finalist with the stylish glasses, started the charity Sophia’s Heart Foundation in memory of his late wife, Sophia, who was his inspiration to try out for “Idol.”
