Chenoweth will be guest judge

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

Chenoweth CD“Idol Chatter” is reporting that Kristin Chenoweth will guest judge on “American Idol.” I remember Chenoweth more recently in the now cancelled ABC show “Pushing Daisies.” I really liked “Pushing Daisies” and was disappointed it was cancelled. But that’s another story. Chenoweth has a great, great voice, too. (Her Christmas CD is outstanding!)

Katharine McPhee

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

You won’t even recognized Season 5 runner-up Katharine McPhee when you see the cover of her upcoming CD, “Unbroken,” set for release on Oct. 6. The former brunette has cut her hair and dyed it blonde and her first single, “Had It All,” sounds very good. Vocals are great and the music is upbeat and fun.

You can download the single on iTunes and also listen to the tune on Kat’s MySpace page.

Jason Castro

Friday, August 21st, 2009

Jason_Castro_Photos_9Third runner-up in 2008 Jason Castro (Mr. Dreadlocks) has just released his new single “Let’s Just Fall In Love Again.” When I first started listening to it, I thought I might hear a Jason Mraz clone, but it’s not that at all.

I wonder if radio will play this song. I personally enjoy “Let’s Just Fall In Love Again.” I like the beat and the 50s feel to it. It’s definitely something different that what is being played on radio right now. We’ll see if listeners and iTunes buyers embrace the tune. Take a listen and read the lyrics at JasonCastroMusic.com

Shania Twain on ‘Idol’

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

TV-American Idol-TwainWhen I posted earlier that I thought Shania Twain would be a great addition to sit in the judge’s chair, I had no idea it would actually happen!

According to Associated Press, a spokesman for “Idol” said Tuesday that Twain will take part in the Chicago auditions set for the end of August.

The article also reported that Kelly Clarkson, one of the Jonas Brothers also may end up as guest judges, but it was yet to be confirmed.

So we’re getting all of these guest judges for the auditions … I wonder if they’ll stick with the three-person format during competition. I’d hate to have a new judge in each week; three judges would be sufficient.

What do you think about Shania Twain, Kelly Clarkson and one of the Jonas Brothers as guest judges?

Names to replace Paula

Friday, August 7th, 2009

Without Paula, what will the Idol brass do?
- Should they keep three judges?
Without Paula’s salary, it would free up more cash to give to Simon, right?

- Should they quickly collect another judge?
I think that’s risky. Everyone is used to the current judges. Bringing in someone new at this point would be a bad idea. Go this year with three judges and see what happens after that. Who knows, ratings might be down enough without Paula (cough! cough!) that there won’t be a 10th season.

However, with that said, let’s throw out some names (some real, some unrealistic) of potential judges to replace Paula:
1. Shania Twain.
She’s supposed to be working on a new CD, but she’s definitely had success in the past.
2. Martina McBride. While she may be more suited for country, she definitely has one of the best pure voices around. She could definitely help point to someone who has a great voice.
3. Maureen McCormick. Didn’t the Brady’s have a CD? (If you don’t know her, Maureen played Marsha Brady on the Brady Bunch!)
4. Erin Andrews. This ESPN sportscaster would definitely be able to pinpoint the performers and the athletes. Not sure of her singing ability. More guys who have watched her report for ESPN on the sidelines of football and basketball games would definitely pick up a new hobby of watching Idol if she was chosen!
5. Susan Boyle. Runner up of the Britain’s Got Talent and now an International star, thanks to her popularity on YouTube.

Any other people you can think of to replace Paula?

Paula Abdul says she’s leaving Idol

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

It’s a sad day for longtime Idol fans. Paula Abdul says she’s leaving the show. Now we’ll see what the show is made of after losing one of its original members. Sure all of us had our moments where Paula drove us crazy! Her long-winded/worded critiques will NOT be missed. Her playfulness with Simon that always seemed to go a bit too far will NOT be missed. But, she counterbalanced Simon and Randy with generally positive feedback to the contestants. I always liked that and will miss it.

Will Idol bring a fourth judge in? Does it really matter that Paula’s leaving? What do you think?

What about Paula?

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

So what do you think … can Idol survive without Paula? I’ve heard that maybe it can survive without Paula, Randy and Kara, but could not survive without Simon. My guess is that Simon will sign a new contract and return ONLY if they bring back Paula, especially since Simon said that he made it clear that he wanted Paula to return. Personally, I’d like to see her stay, too. Stay tuned… only days remain until they begin to view auditions.
